Today is the Big day!

Hi there!

Well if you are a follower of my blog you must be sick of hearing about the house we were rehabbing.....it is the house I grew up in. So yesterday we finally got everything done that the buyer wanted complete before closing and I went and signed the papers. Today is closing, really don't want to be there.

So yesterday at 5:14 PM I said goodbye to an old friend and the last remaining thing I had to settle from my parents ......... Here is a picture of her......in the Spring when the Peonies are blooming, they were some of my mom favorite flowers. I dug some of those and the lilacs from there when we moved to our house 8 years ago, so I do have that from the old house and I also have a ton of memories. I am glad to have her go to a good buyer - she does deserve a nice family living in her. I will miss her, but not all the work I have done over the last few years.

Farewell old girl...

So silly to get so emotional over a house......but yet I do

I hope you have a good day
Dorothy

Some interesting facts about her....she was built in the 1920's as a summer cottage, my parents were the second owners, and the purchased her Feb 25, 1956 for $9,128.49

We sold her to her third owner Feb 26, 2010 (54 years later) for $135,000 - wich was a giveaway 3 years ago she was at $205,000 but the economy is so bad.

Not many homes can brag about only being owned by 3 familys in 90 years.

Friday Nigth Sew In and More

Hello!

Well my Friday night sew in was a complete bust! We did not get back home til after 9 PM from working on the parents old house....I know you are tired of hearing about this house, I am tired of workin on it! So I only got 1 bock done for my Kansas Troubles BOM, but it is one block done!

The stains are just spray starch that has not dried, I quickly pressed it and snapped the picture without waiting for it to dry.

Here are my goodies that I got when I was able to go to the shop near my parents house. I used 2 of them in my BOM. I love the civil war green -- hoping to get something done with that today.

Here is what I wanted to get done on Friday Night, make some cupcake potholders, but that just did no happen....maybe next week I can whip some of these up.

Well the closing on my parents house is next Friday....so after that I should be able to get back to sewing. Have a wonderful day!

BATTER UP!

Good Morning!

yes today pitchers and catchers report to Cubs Spring Training! This is our year!! Remember last year....we said wait til next year.....well next year is here!

You know spring is just a couple of weeks away (ok about a month or so away) but it sure seems like it with Spring Training starting.

Nothing new in my quilting....I did get to visit a quilt shop out by my parents house yesterday and I got some FQ's......I will have to post a photo tomorrow.

I am waiting for hubby to get home from excercising and then we are going to get new glasses and then to work on plumbing out at the old house... Countdown is on closing is scheduled for the 26th....

Speaking of quilting.....are you signed up for the Friday Night Sew in??? I am! What are you going to work on, I was thinking something springy...but I have not picked my project yet, maybe I will run upstairs and see what I might like to do.... I will have a photo of that for you tomorrow too!

St Patty's Day Swap

Good Morning!

I am in the Yahoo Group Quilted Table Runners, and we had a swap for St Patty's Day -- you were to make a 15 inch tabletopper. This is the great one I received from Darlene. I just love the Shamrocks in the bowl! She did a fantastic job. She also made a cute little card and included a St Patty's Day notepad, great for writing my shopping list out for out St Patty's day dinner! So very thoughtful.

Here is the tabletopper I made and the little gifties I mailed off to my secret person. Remember when I told you I sorted all my cards, well lucky me, I had a St Patty's Day card, so it worked out perfectly.

Here is a closeup of the tabletopper, just a churn dash block with a border, but I just love the way it turned out. I hope the lady who gets it likes it.

Busy week this week for us, today we have to finish the electrical repairs because tomorrow the county inspector will be there, hopefully we pass, so the boys can start the plumbing. Keep your fingers crossed everything goes well. We had the well and septic inspection on Friday, and of course the inspector is a CYA type of a guy and since no one has actually lived there for a couple years he is going to suggest some money be held back for 30 days -- the key here will be how much money will be held back I am ok with $1,000 - $2,000 any more than that, won't work. The Septic inspector told me a new septic costs $12,000 -- that is not in my budget. And since it did work fine when my mom was there and fine when we had a renter, it should continue to work. We will just have to wait and see.
Hubby is off for his excercise, so I have a little time to sew this morning!

No Quilting News :(

Good Morning!

Well I have been busy going to .......

And saving Big Money!!!! Yesterday I made 3 trips there for hubby and brother In Law - I remember the days when the ladies at the quilt shops knew me by name....now the folks at Menards do! But we are moving along very nicely. So hopefully by next weekend we will be done!!

I did get a chance to go to Home Depot and I got this adorable Primrose plant....it is a sure sign Spring is on the way!

Happy Valentines Day Weekend!

Finally a Finish!!

Hi there!

Finally I have a finish! This is the tabletopper I got the pattern for at my BOM last month.

It is a neat pattern, it is quilt as you go and you sew the pieces at an angle. Click on the picture to enlarge it to see the HUGE Rick Rack on the edge right next to the binding.

Other than that, we are in our 18th hour of non stop snow, so today we stayed home from working on my parents old house, did not get that much done, the phone was ringing off the hook, most of it involved the sale of the house. And then our attorney told me the original of the will was missing, so I spent about 3 hours looking for that, still only copies! arrggghh. So tomorrow I will consult with our attorney and see what needs to be done. Luckily our attorney was my moms attorney so he is delight to work with.
Off to maybe sew up something tonight. I need to get more done to show you!
Have a great night

Super Bowl Weekend!

Are you ready for some Football???

We are!

Yesterday we worked on getting permits for the extra electrical work out at my parents old house, and then started to work on putting in additional outlets. Today we have to work in the garage and swap out 1 of the door openers. Sunday - Super Bowl Sunday -- hubby and his brother will be running some additional electric lines.

I have not had a chance to sew all week, and I am getting a little grumpy :(

I printed some neat BOM embrodiery patterns, I will post them on the side of my blog.

Off to work a little construction and then hopefully we will get home early enough tonight to sew a bit.

Happy Stitches!

More Pictures from the Get A Way Weekend!

Good Morning!

Yesterday was another wasted day, sewing wise, that is, I worked on helping hubby get permits and met with a plumber at my parents old home -- we have a contract but of course with the economy he is trying to get another $8000 off -- so we have to update some items to get them in with the current code. Lucky hubby and his brother are very talented and we can fix most of it on our own.

Here are some more photos from the Girls Winter Get Away Weekend:

This is my sister in law, she made a cute purse, I know she worked on other things too but I can't remember right now.

This lady is Quilting Mom, she is not my mom, but she is everyones Quilting Mom. Her 3 daughters also came with us. She is a riot and we all love her to pieces. Here is the project she was working on.

This is Sandy -- she doesn't sew much but she loves to stitch, so she stitches and we just have a blast with her.

This is Cheryl, she is one of QM's daughters, she was working a neat 30's project.

Today is First Thursday -- we meet for breakfast in about 45 minutes then after breakfast we have a conference room in the bank where we go and stitch. Should be a fun day, Hubby will be turning in permit forms today and then tomorrow we start on running some electrical lines, hopefully it won't be an enlightening job! If you get my drift!
Another little bit of good news, just 15 more days til Pitchers and Catchers report to spring training for the Cubs! Spring has to be around the corner!
have a great day

Back from the Girls GetAway Weekend!!

Hello!

I am back from the Girls Winter Get a Way weekend! As you can tell from the photo below, I packed light!!!! That is an understatement. I brought along 10 projects to work on, yes I was crazy. I did get some stuff done, but nothing like I could have - if I would have sat down and sewed instead of being a social butterfly.

Of course the bed and breakfast we stayed at was about 1 hour from my house, we left at 9:30 AMand arrived there at 5 PM!! Bad traffic you ask?!?! No just lots of quilt shops along the way.
Here is our group at Quilters General Store in Rockford.

After that we went to lunch and then to Acorn Quilts in Rockford, they are a new store and kinda modern but nice.
Fast forward to Sunday morning, here is the entire group with some of the projects we worked on. It was a great time and everyone enjoyed it. This picture was taken at the Victorian Veranda where we stayed, http://www.bbonline.com/il/veranda/ It was a great place to stay, we had 9 people so we filled up the house and it was awesome. Rhett is the lady who owns the house and runs the B&B - you could not ask for a nicer host.

Glad to be home - we were up til 3 each night got up by 7 each morning, it was nice to sleep once again in my own bed.
I will share more pictures tomorrow.
